Located approximately 2 hours from Sydney, Newcastle is one of Australia’s most beautiful cities. Newcastle was once home to the most active music scene per capita in the whole world. The nightlife in Newcastle is particularly lively with many venues featuring live music. Novocastrians, as residents are called, have long supported their professional sports teams including the Newcastle Knights (rugby league) and Newcastle Jets (soccer) who play at EnergyAustralia Stadium to often sold out crowds. The Newcastle region is also home to the most beaches in Australia with over 50 beaches leading from Port Stephens to Lake Macquarie. Newcastle is also home to the Surfest festival, which is Australia’s largest surfing event. The whole festival runs for 13 days and includes a number of contests that deem to involve professionals as well as youngsters who might end up as the champions of tomorrow.
